More than half a century ago, it was just a quiet fishing port on a small craggy peninsula looking out over the neighbouring island of Minorca. Today, perched prominently on the dramatic and jagged coastline at the extreme north east corner of Mallorca, Cala Ratjada, whose name literally means “The Bay of Rays” has grown into a well established and popular resort in the picturesque district of Capdepera.
It was this scenic backdrop among lofty pine trees and slender casuarinas swaying gently in the breeze and birds in their specially protected habitat that provided the truly stunning setting for the October 2009 “Spiritual Retreat” which took place in the relaxing atmosphere of Hotel Cala Ratjada. Located off a quiet side road among landscaped gardens and with nearby shops and the beach only minutes away, the hotel is a peaceful haven with all the amenities to make your stay an unforgettable experience. The living accommodation is named after the four major Balearic Islands, Mallorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Outdoor swimming pools as well as an all inclusive policy means there is nothing for you to worry about.
More than its scenery, the “Retreat” was a time of refreshing, a time of renewing or making meaningful relationships and it was a time of prayer for the hundred people or so who attended. We saw the magnificence of God’s universe, encountered God’s amazing grace, discovered how to be happy, learned the importance of love to Christians and found our oasis in Christ. Cala Ratjada, you could say in a word, was a true oasis for those short eight days but there is something greater, something bigger. I’m looking forward to seeing you there next year.
